The Power of Music

Music can influence your mood or change your behaviour. A lullaby is a prime example of this.

How often do you find yourself involuntarily tapping your foot or in some way keeping in time with some background music? Those who participate in exercise classes or jogging will testify to the value of keeping in time with an appropriate beat or rhythm.

Fast food outlets will use upbeat music to encourage customers to move quickly speeding up foot fall. Whereas in contrast more sedate music will encourage diners in a restaurant to linger longer, choose that dessert, another drink or cup of coffee that adds to the bill.

I know trainers that use music to create the appropriate atmosphere as you enter the training room, getting the participants into a conducive frame of mind. I also know of coaches that use music to enhance teamwork.
Music can be calming, energising, or that most irritating of all an “earworm”, that tune you just cannot get out of your head! Imagine if that was your advertising jingle, how powerful would that be?

Carers use nostalgic music to engage and entertain dementia patients, irrespective of their condition an old familiar song will have them sing along. Schools use music to help develop coordination and self esteem.
From babies to senior citizens, we enjoy our own personal music genre.

Understanding and tapping into your target market’s music of choice is an exceptional way to attract attention and build up a positive marketing relationship. Don’t underestimate the power of music, consider this when you create your next social media post.
