My previous post commented on how to enjoy and benefit from a positive situation.

On the flip side if you are having a bad day, it is no consolation but you wonโ€™t be the only one!

There are several strategies available to help reduce stress and improve your mood and turn things around.

First of all recognise that it is okay to have a bad day. Just acknowledging how you are feeling is a good first step.

If possible, step away from whatever is causing you stress or frustration. A short break, even a few minutes to clear your mind, can make a big difference. Perhaps do something completely different for a short time.

To help you calm down and relax take deep, slow breaths.

Engage in a relaxing activity, a walk (with your dog if you have one!), a gentle jog or some simple exercises will release the body chemicals that are natural mood lifters.

A change of scenery can help, if possible, go to a park or open green space.

Sometimes, just talking to someone about what's bothering you can make you feel better.

Many practitioners suggest mindfulness techniques, for example meditation.

Beware of inducing stress by setting yourself unrealistic objectives. Reassess what you are seeking to achieve, itโ€™s ok to set ambitious targets but beware of over reaching beyond your capacity or capabilities.

What works best may vary depending on you and your circumstances.

Remember bad days are a part of life โ€“ tomorrow will be a better day!
