Digital Revolution or Disruptive Technology

Significant and accelerating advancement in the new industrial revolution, the so called Digital Revolution or “Disruptive Technology” has become an indispensable part of industry, society and everyday life. It provides individuals, groups, companies, governments, etc instant access to information and immediate contact through mobile and desk based devices.

The New Industrial Revolution provides 24 hour, always on access. We now expect activities that in the past took hours or days to now be completed, as and when required, without delay and in a fraction of the time.
Immediate access to social media, communicating information, news, paying bills, shopping, sending or receiving documents, comparing goods and services, on the go entertainment, etc is now the norm.
How isolated do we feel if there is no wi fi or mobile phone signal? These have become essential components of everyday life.

However, the ever constant opportunity to communicate and the ability to complete activities or transactions almost instantly poses a conundrum.

What do we do with the significant time being saved? To what purpose do we put all this new “free” time?
How do we use this asset – most probably by spending even more time on line!

We are perhaps more efficient but surely this is an opportunity that our industries should be exploiting in a more productive manner?
