Is your business a brick building or house of cards?

One of the more common issues I encounter when coaching business owners is the lack of structure.

Many businesses are created by someone taking a leap of faith and leaving employment to create their own enterprise. Many are leaving behind a regular work schedule. No more start and finish times, no one setting you targets and following up to see if they are being achieved, no one defining your work schedule. Someone else took care of all the financial details such as PAYE, NI, pensions, etc.

Now as a business owner not only do all those responsibilities rest on your shoulders but you also have to be the strategist, marketing manager, sales person, understand cash flow and all the other essential tasks.

When asked for advice I suggest recreate that structure you left behind. Learn to plan and review, to manage your time efficiently, to prioritise tasks appropriately. Importantly you need to learn to develop a fundamental knowledge of how to work on your business as well as in your business.

Working with a coach or mentor you can anticipate business growth substantially greater than those business who don’t. A significant benefit is that your growth will be much quicker, accelerating you passed the tipping point where a substantial number of businesses will fail.
